Name the trip ("Surf City NC holiday"), tag every catch with who reeled it in, watch live stats roll in all weekend long, then end with a beautiful Trip Summary — biggest fish, MVP angler, species count, every photo. Multi-day trips work. The shareable card families actually text to grandma.
Log weight, length, location, weather, moon phase, who caught it, and a 💧 Released toggle. Your full fishing history, searchable and filterable. Every trip becomes a memory you can scroll back through years from now.
A living collection of every species across Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida — freshwater and saltwater. Each fish has baits, tips, fun facts, and state keeper rules. The ones your kid has caught light up in color.
State-specific seasonal goals that rotate every month. Tennessee gets May Rainbow Trout Run + Smallmouth Summer, Carolina families get Spring Red Drum + the Fall Spot Run, Florida unlocks Pompano Run, Tarpon Season, and Snook Comeback. Limited-edition badges for each one.
Surprise XP rewards for special moments — Sunset Catch at golden hour, Biggest Yet for a new lifetime PB, Double Catch for two within 30 minutes, Family Outing when grandpa reels one in, Pier Slam for 3+ species at the same pier. Stack them on a single fish.
Catch counts, species variety, weight class, water types — plus regional badges like Smokies Trout Hunter, Reelfoot Crappie Slayer, Outer Banks Explorer, Tampa Bay Specialist, and Keys Reef Hunter. Real long-term goals that keep kids coming back season after season.
Every catch pops a celebration card with a fun fact about the species, state keeper rules, and a release nudge if undersized. Beat your previous best? A big gold "NEW PERSONAL BEST!" banner sweeps the screen.
Five lifetime certificates a kid can actually earn and frame: First Catch, First Lunker, First Trophy, First Rare Catch, First Legendary Catch. Personalized with your child's name. Save as image or print at home.
Turn any catch into a printable trading card with photo, stats, weather, and a tier badge. Save them, print them, share them with grandma. Each one is a tiny keepsake.
Film a 30-second clip when you log a catch. Save the release to never forget the moment. All your clips collect into a TikTok-style scrollable reel kids can show their friends.
One-tap "Released" toggle on every catch. Kids unlock Catch & Release Champion (release 10), Sustainable Angler (release 25), Tarpon Hero, and Slot Master (release a legal keeper). Builds stewardship habits early, the right way.
State-specific keeper sizes and daily limits for every species. Friendly "still growing" nudges encourage release of undersized fish. Direct links to TWRA, NCWRC, and FWC official regulations.
14 kid-friendly fish recipes built for the catch-then-cook loop: panfish fry, lemon trout foil bombs, blackened redfish, fish tacos, and more. Sustainability nudges built in (only keep what you'll eat). Plus a Learn hub with knot diagrams, casting drills, safety tips, surf and pier guides, and a quick Fish Facts quiz.
Two opt-in AI experiments hide behind a free Claude API key — photo fish ID (snap a fish, get a guess) and Captain Splash (a chat buddy for fishing questions). Both are very much in development and not the heart of the app. We recommend picking species manually for now and treating Captain Splash as a curiosity, not a coach. We'll promote them out of "experimental" when they're truly reliable.
Hooked is in open beta and we ship updates almost every week. New species, new challenges, new states. The app you install today gets better tomorrow.
Got an idea or spot a missing fish? Tell us — kid + parent feedback shapes what we build next.
Real screens from the iOS app, fresh from the Simulator.

Six tabs, each focused on something fun.
Your dashboard. Total catches, species count, badges and current angler level. Tap the badges card to find your printable Certificates collection. Tap any stat to dive in.
Every catch you've made, newest first. Search, filter, edit, or share any of them as a trading card. Catches with video clips show a small 🎬 badge.
All 90 species across TN, NC, Florida, and Texas, plus Rest of USA fallbacks for any state. Your catches light up in full color. Family catches (tagged Mother, Father, etc.) show in lightened gold so the whole family fishes together on one device. Tap any species to see baits, how-to tips, fun facts, state-specific keeper rules, and every catch logged.
The big middle button. Snap a photo or record a 30-second clip. The app auto-fills species, weather, moon phase and date.
A TikTok-style vertical feed of every catch you've recorded a clip for. Auto-plays as you scroll. Tap to share, jump to the catch, or unmute. Great for showing friends the moment you released that big one.
14 fish recipes, knot diagrams, casting drills, safety tips, surf & pier guides, and a quick Fish Facts quiz. An optional AI buddy can answer fishing questions too, but the whole Learn hub works without it.

Yes. The app is completely free. No payment, no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. We're in open beta and would love your feedback.
Heads-up: the two AI experiments (📸 fish photo ID and ⚓ Captain Splash chat) are very early in development and not the heart of the app. They're powered by Anthropic's Claude and only turn on if you paste your own free Claude API key into Settings. We recommend picking species manually for now and treating Captain Splash as a curiosity rather than a coach.
If you'd still like to try them: console.anthropic.com → create a free account → make a key → paste it into the app's Settings. Anthropic gives new accounts a free credit. Usage is pennies. The entire rest of Hooked works perfectly without a key.
No. Catches and progress save directly to the device. No login, no email, no data sent to anyone unless they tap Share on a catch card.
On the device, in the browser's local storage. Don't clear browser data or it will be lost. We recommend installing to home screen so it acts like a real app.
No. Highlight Reel clips are stored locally on the device, just like photos and catches. Nothing is uploaded to a server or shared automatically. The only way a video leaves the device is if your child taps Share and chooses where to send it. Clips are limited to 90 seconds to keep storage reasonable, kids can either record in-app or upload from their camera roll.
There are exactly five lifetime certificates a kid can earn:
🎣 First Catch · 💪 First Lunker (5+ lb) · 🏆 First Trophy (10+ lb) · 💎 First Rare Catch · 🌟 First Legendary Catch
Each fires once ever. When earned, a beautiful certificate auto-generates with the kid's name, signed by Captain Splash. They can save it as an image or print it at home. The collection lives under the Badges page and can be reprinted anytime.
Yes. Every species page shows the state-specific minimum keeper size and daily limit. When a kid logs a catch that's below the keeper size, the app shows a friendly "still growing" message encouraging release. The app links directly to TWRA and NCWRC official regulations. We don't lecture, we frame catch & release as a way to grow trophy fish for next year.
Four states with full content: Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas (each with state-specific regulations, regional badges, and monthly challenges). Plus two generic fallbacks: Rest of USA — Inland (43 freshwater species, year-round generic challenges) and Rest of USA — Coastal (47 saltwater species, year-round generic challenges) so anyone outside our full-content states still gets a meaningful Journal and challenges. California, Minnesota, New York, and other top fishing states are next on the roadmap.
Yes once installed. AI photo ID and Captain Splash need internet (they call Claude). Logging catches, browsing the Journal, taking the Fish Facts quiz, and reading recipes all work offline.
Captain Splash is an early experiment with a kid-appropriate system prompt focused only on fishing topics, and it's off by default (requires a Claude API key to enable). No personal data is collected. Because the feature is still in development we strongly recommend parents spot-check every conversation, and we don't position it as a substitute for grown-up guidance.
Send us your Apple ID email, get a TestFlight invite within 1 to 2 days, start logging catches with your family.
